WHERE TO STAY WHEN YOU'RE BACKPACKING

AROUND AUSTRALIA

When you're travelling around Australia you can stay in backpacker hostels, hotels, AirBnB's, outback hotels, an apartment or share house or a campervan or campsite.

We recommend that you spend most of your time in Oz staying at hostels, as they're located almost everywhere you're going to go, are cheap and are a great place to meet people. Hostelworld is a great way to find and book a hostel.

HOW TO GET THE MOST

OUT OF YOUR JOURNEY

If you've travelled all the way to Australia you'll want to get the most out of your journey. Here are a few ways to help you do that..

  • Spend your hard earned money on travel and tours and not on alcohol.

  • Book all the things you really want to do at the start of your trip.

  • Try to keep off your phone and enjoy your surroundings and speak to people.

  • Travel with people that you love being with.

  • Be brave and go to some places by yourself.

  • Be spontaneous!

GET OFF THE BEATEN TRACK

Most people that go backpacking in Australia will travel along the east coast and then maybe go to Melbourne.

But some of the most amazing experiences you can have are elsewhere.

Sleeping out under the stars in the Red Centre, snorkelling with whale sharks on the Ningaloo Reef on the west coast, going on safari in Kakadu National Park and sleeping underground in Coober Pedy are just some of the amazing things you can do if you get off the beaten track.
